Blog Feature: Frosting for the Cause

As many of you know, last year I raised over $3,000 and walked 60 miles to fight breast cancer in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  I may not be walking this year, but I still firmly believe that we are close to a cure and will continue to support the fight.  A friend on twitter recently told me about a blog that is working hard to find a cure using... confectionery.

Frosting for the Cause

Frosting for the Cause is built around a guest blogger format with a new cookie/cupcake baker blogging every day for an entire year.  They will share their recipes and a little bit about their connection to this horrible disease.  By agreeing to do this project, these very generous bakers will donate a batch of their cookies/cupcakes to their local Women's Hospice but will also make a $25 donation to either the Canadian or American Cancer Society to fund research.  Not only are these amazing volunteers raising awareness but by the end of the year, they will have raised $9,125 for research!

There are some really yummy recipes over there.  Head on over and show some support and find a little recipe for dessert while you're at it!

A Bit of a Scolding

I am a bad, bad person! My ever supportive twitter friend Marjorie aka whskr on twitter, Artfire, and Etsy; and of The Fantail blog featured me on her blog longer ago than I care to admit and I never promoted it or even thanked her for it. Marjorie, I am so sorry and thank you so very much!! It was such a complimentary feature and I appreciate it so very much.

I love this piece: Green Goddess Beaded Art Doll Pin

Happy Blog Props + Google Alerts

Thanks to Google Alerts, I found out that Jean9 over at the Lapidary Queen Wannabees blog featured my blog and Etsy shop in her third installment of her Art of Chain Maille series. If you get a chance, give her blog some love.

Also, be sure to check out Google Alerts. You will receive e-mail updates with the latest relevant Google results based on your choice of query or topic. I've got it set up to search for my name as well as my shop name. This is usually how I find out that I've been mentioned on someone's blog. =)

Three Happy Surprise Features!

I just very happily discovered that Athena's Armoury is featured in not one, not two, but three different places over the course of the last few days!

First, I received a notice through Blog Catalog from FishHawk informing me that I was featured in his Five for Friday feature. FishHawk says: "FIVE FOR FRIDAY is a weekly feature on this blog that is meant for the SOLE purpose of calling attention unto sites that I think that many would find interesting." He featured my Euro 4-1 stainless steel bracelet with lovely lavender glass dangles:

Thank you FishHawk!!

I was just scrolling through the referring URL's of people who visited my blog and noticed that quite a few people were coming from two different places over the course of the last few days: Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories and The Scarlett Rose Garden.

The Scarlett Rose Garden is a totally charming blog featuring (among other things) fantastic vintage clothing. Nikki at Scarlett featured my blog post on Rosie the Riveter for her "How to look Rosie for the 4th!" blog post.

Thank you Scarlett Rose Garden!!

And lastly, Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories did a fantastic tutorial on how to make your own DIY d12 Handbag (of Holding) . In their intro, they linked back to my blog post featuring the alternative use of my Chain Maille Dice Bag as an evening purse.

Check Out Athena's Armoury in TWO Places!

I'm pleased to share with you that three items from Athena's Armoury are being featured in the Fantasy Artists of Etsy Street Team's Spring Fever Exhibition! There are all kinds of fun goodies included in the exhibition, such as: artwork, jewelry, ritual oil, dolls, sculpture, accessories, housewares, masks, and more. Items from the Armoury include:

Napkin Armour for that spring picnic:

A Beaded Daisies Bracelet to wear to the picnic:

And the Katie Collar for your pup:

Athena's Armoury has also been featured at MyFairyBabies, a blog run by Hyla with the Etsy shop of the same name. This shop contains all kinds of fun kiddie items, fairy dolls, and dragon ornaments. I actually love Hyla's other shop: Steampunk Box Books. It is thanks to her that I was introduced to this fabulous genre. And finally, Faewood Creations houses her fingerless gloves, tote bags, and jewelry. She's a busy lady!

Athena's Armoury is Featured

The Fantasy Artists of Etsy Street Team's March Madness Exhibition is now live! It includes many different forms of art that contain themes of moons (for lunacy!), Alice in Wonderland (March Hare), dark fantasy, and more. Helen, from the Etsy shop krummenacker, explained where the phrase "March Madness" is derived:

"It began with Spring Fever and Mad as a March Hare-- the apparent insanity of animals and young people, even, eager to get outdoors, play, mate, and run wild. Rabbits in particular do incredibly dangerous things when their hormones are surging. And so the March Hare was at the Mad Hatter's tea party..."

Helen is just a font of information, especially stories of myth and legend.

Anyway, please check out our exhibition! There are many wonderful items and I'm sure you'll find something or someone that catches your fancy. Happy shopping!

I am honored to share with you that Cathy from AllChic has featured my Chain Maille Dice Bag on her blog. The post is called Medieval Look and features a dress by Stella McCartney. Cathy recommends using my Dice Bag as a purse (I actually have had a customer do the very thing once!). Also featured is a killer knit collar by Ellita's Flying Snail. Thank you so much for featuring me, Cathy, and in such amazing company. To think, I was in the same article as Stella McCartney. . . Glorious!
